A Self Portrait

What's it like to look at ourselves intimately? I'm reminded of art class in 8th grade where the assignment was to a self portrait drawing. I had to take the time each day that week to look at myself in the mirror and draw what I saw. It's a difficult task to look at yourself, to observe, and draw what you see; especially at such an awkward age.

At the same time, it was kind of a beautiful experience to see yourself in this way. Going beyond the outer exterior is another type of self-portrait, one that goes within yourself. It too is difficult and beautiful at the same time.

What does it take for an inner self-portrait? It takes some vulnerability, some trust, and some listening. It takes trying new things, questioning, and digging deep within yourself. In other words--it takes purposeful practice. Some good places to start could be looking at your strengths, your fears, your joys, and your uncomfortable moments.
